Downfall of Amateur Cricket in Islamabad

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Pakistan but sadly it hasn’t taken its place as a full time profession for many cricket enthusiasts. Let me explain the reason why.

I have been playing cricket in Islamabad since the last decade and I am glad to say that twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have a good structure of amateur cricket. In recent years, our senior cricket enthusiasts has formed the multiple cricket clubs to play tournaments with each other. Luckily, the cricket grounds are also widely available for rent on hourly and weekly basis in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. All club members know each other and there is a positive vibe to promote cricket.

Recently, the trend of local amateur cricket has increased. Now cricket enthusiasts play cricket league matches almost every week. As a result, all cricket grounds are booked in advance. This high demand has provided a business opportunity to the cricket ground bodies to increase the rental fares. In addition to that, the limited cricket grounds provide them a good opportunity to fetch whatever the amount they set. This issue has resultant in decrease cricket matches and less interest in these local cricket league as these charges are not affordable.

To find a solution to this problem, I am proposing to create a regulatory body that consists of all local cricket enthusiasts who play on weekly and monthly basis. We can unite and fight against these cricket ground authorities. We can set a suitable ground fares, we can scrutinize the leagues and bound them to provide sufficient services at a fair rate.
