Pakistani O levels student wins second prize in NASA contest!

When it comes to science and technology, Pakistan has no dearth of talent. Despite being a third world country today we have produced talented teenagers like Ali Moeen Nawazish who within a span of one year managed to do the unthinkable and snatch 21 straight As or Haris Manzoor who just at the tender age of nine years managed to get straight As in his O levels.

Thus it was not surprising when Shah Mir Aizaz a student from O levels in Pakistan secured second prize at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2015.

This contest has been taking place since 1994 but this is the first time a Pakistani has managed to secure any position in the contest.

This year, out of the 994 submissions from 3,007 students from 21 nations, Shah Mir Aizaz, a student of O’ Levels from Pakistan managed to secure 2nd place and won a prize for his design titled ‘Beyond Infinity – Eros Outer Atmosphere Settlement’. This contest was sponsored by the NASA Ames Research Center and the National Space Society NSS.

Even the judges were shocked, judging by the limited resources that students from Pakistan get when compared to students from other countries, it is surprising that they still manage to get far and win these kind of contests!

Kids like these continue making our nation proud by their own efforts. The least we can do is show them our support and appreciation. After all this is the change Pakistan needs to depict a better image of itself all over the world.
