Samsung Galaxy X: Samsung’s new smartphone to launch in 2018

Samsung Galaxy X new smartphone launches in 2018. Here’s all you need to know about Samsung’s bendy handset

The Samsung Galaxy X is a strange one. Its existence is still something of a mystery – we know it’s definitely a thing and we know that it bends. The thing is, we don’t know how it achieves this technical wizardry, or know any concrete details surrounding Samsung’s fancy-pants smartphone for that matter.

There is one thing we do know, though: the Samsung Galaxy X will launch in 2018. Expected to make an appearance during the CES consumer technology show in January, Samsung is primed to make the grand unveiling.

How do we know this? Well, just last month Samsung’s president of mobile business, Koh Dong-Jin, said the firm will launch its foldable smartphone next year under the Note brand, according to Bloomberg.

Not only that, but recent internet rumblings indicate that the Samsung Galaxy X will be a limited run – exclusive only to South Korea with only 100,000 units produced. It seems the South Korean launch will be a test, and a way to drum up interest on Samsung’s foldable handset.

The Galaxy X has also recently passed certification in South Korea, too. According to Let’sGoDigital, the handset’s model number – SM-G888NO popped up in a certification filing from the Korean National Radio Research Agency, following a filing for its Bluetooth certification, and again popping up at the Wi-Fi Alliance, again for certification.

There’s no word yet on what this bendy phone will be called, so we’re sticking with the codename Galaxy X for the time being, at least until we hear any concrete details. That being said, here’s absolutely everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy X, including UK release date, UK price, specs and noteworthy features.

Samsung Galaxy X: Everything you need to know

  • Samsung Galaxy X slated for 2018 release
  • Limited 100,000 units at launch
  • Possibly a smartphone/tablet hybrid

Samsung has been teasing us with a foldable mobile for some time. In spite of this hype, the likelihood of Samsung planning a triple hit following the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 reveals earlier this year was always very low.

Now, our initial hope – although fleeting – was that the Galaxy X would get a mention during the Note 8 unveiling back in August 2017, but alas, there wasn’t even the faintest of whiffs.

Following that, IFA Berlin was cited as the next big tech event where we could see Samsung’s elusive foldable. Reports pointed at a grand unveiling at the annual tech conference but again, there was no such mention. Our next hope? The Galaxy X will be discussed early next year at CES.
