Yeah, we’ve heard it! There are a lot of similarities between 1992 and 2015 world cup for Pakistan. This time too the world cup is being held in Austrailia, the captain too is a Niazi (wouldn’t be shocked if Misbah joins politics later) and yeah the wicketkeepers are from the same city. Leaving aside that, really?
In 1992 we had one of the best wicketkeepers ever, Moin Khan! At present we are still confused whether Sarfraz Ahmad or Umar Akmal should be the keeper!
In 1992 we had one of the finest batsmen in the world. Rameez Raja, Javed Miandad, Aamer Sohail, Saeed Anwar, Saleem Malik and Inzamam-ul-Haq were all jewels in our cricket’s crown. Does our present team possesses such talent! No
Does our present team possess bowlers like Wasim Akram or Mushtaq Ahmad? No. The best we had have just recently been banned by ICC for their so called wrong bowling angle!
Is our fielding up to the mark! The phrase daikho mat saha nahi jayga would be suitable here!
However the biggest deficiency might just be what everybody ignores! The team of today lacks the leadership of Kaptaan Khan!
Few would dispute that Imran Khan is the finest cricketer Pakistan has ever produced, or the biggest heartthrob whatever you may call him.
Suave, erudite and monstrously talented, he gave cricket in the subcontinent what it really lacked. A real sex appeal!
For the first time, we had a Maradonna of our own. A man who was a source of inspiration for all!
As such he and the newly arrived TV in his era completed what Hanif Mohammad had started, replacing hockey as the most popular game in the country.
He is indisputably the greatest cricketer to emerge from Pakistan, and arguably the world’s second-best allrounder after Garry Sobers.
He took a mediocre side and transformed them into world-beaters, leading them to the World Cup title in 1992. That’s what differs him from Misbah!
For those who compare 1992 with 2015, I have a simple question to ask?
Can Misbah inspire his players in the same manner that Khan did, does he possess the same charisma and personality that motivated even the most mediocre of players to perform to their best?
I don’t think so and it is because of these reasons I believe it is foolish to compare the 1992 world cup win of Pakistan with 2015 no matter where the matches are being played.
This folk is the main difference between 1992 and 2015. And those who boast about having a few simple similarities should know the game changer Khan who led Pakistan in 1992 is no longer there. With all due respect Misbah!
